Southampton’s new and improved recycling centre and rubbish tip has opened to the public.

The tip at First Avenue, off the Millbrook Roundabout, replaces the now closed facility at Endle Street. So anyone intending to take their rubbish and recycling to the city’s tip will need to now use the new facility.

The new tip is much bigger than the old one and has more car parking spaces.

There are also more opportunities for residents to recycle.

The old rubbish tip will now be sold off for exciting development which could include new leisure facilities and new homes.

Councillor Daniel Fitzhenry, Cabinet Member for Environment and Transport, said: “This Recycling Park will be bigger and better for our residents to use. There will be more car parking, less queuing and we will be able to recycle more.

“And just as good news is that we can now move forward with plans to develop the old site at Endle Street. This is a win, win situation for everyone.”
